I did not attend the Winter Warm-Up, preferring to remain warm instead. There are plenty of good Cardinal sites from which to pull data on the weekend’s activities, not to mention www.stltoday.com.
I wanted to mention something that appeared on ESPN.com tonight about Jim Edmonds. Edmonds, as you no doubt are aware, didn’t play baseball in 2009, but didn’t retire either. Personally I thought he was too stubborn to give up on baseball and continued to hope he’d get the call. I also figured he’d see the writing on the wall at this point and call it a career. Nay Nay, Moosebreath.
Edmonds wants to play again – so much so that he asked LaRussa ‘how about it?’. The Cardinals do lack for a left-handed bat off the bench, what with Chris Duncan traded and Rick Ankiel a free agent. Wouldn’t it be interesting if Edmonds had something left in the tank? Wouldn’t it be fun to have him advise/coach/teach Colby Rasmus how to play center?
Assume Mozeliak will send someone out to see Edmonds hit/catch/throw. If he appears to still have it, why not make him a non-roster invitee to camp? What does the club have to lose?
Maybe this is why Holliday gave up #15.
