1 February in Cardinal history

Continuing the theme from the weekend, here are 2 events from Cardinal history that happened today.

Bob Smith was born in Woodsville New Hampshire on this date in 1931. A pitcher, he appeared in 6 games for the Cardinals in 1957.

In 1973 the team traded pitcher Charlie Hudson to the Rangers. Initially the deal was for a player to be named; that player turned into pitcher Mike Thompson.

Thompson started 2 games for St Louis in 1973, and appeared in 19 games for the club in 1974, making 4 more starts. He was 0-3 with a 5.63 ERA overall as a Cardinal, and was shipped to Atlanta before the end of the ’74 season.
