Two items on this off-day:
Lance Berkman was named NL Player of the Week today, in one of the more obvious choices of recent memory. Berkman only posted a .417/.462/1.167 line from April 10-17, with 6 home runs and 12 RBIs. He also walked three times, but only once intentionally. Congratulations to Lance on his well-deserved award.
Second, although you many have read this at I-70 Baseball and elsewhere, Yadier Molina will have a baseball field dedicated in his name tomorrow. From the Cardinals Media Advisory:
Cardinals Care and the Redbird Rookies will honor Cardinals two-time All Star and three-time Gold Glove catcher, Yadier Molina, with the dedication of Yadier Molina Field at 9:30 AM on Tuesday, April 19th, in Wellston , Missouri .
Wellston Mayor Linda Whitfield and a representative for St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley will join Cardinals Catcher Yadier Molina, Cardinals President Bill DeWitt III, Cardinals Vice President of Community Relations & Cardinals Care Michael Hall in a special ceremony led by Cardinals broadcaster Dan McLaughlin from Fox Sports Midwest.
Yadier Molina Field is located at 6335 Plymouth Avenue in Wellston on what used to be an abandoned parking lot. Today, Yadier Molina Field is the home playing field for the Wellston Redbird Rookies program and neighboring Redbird Rookie leagues comprised of boys and girls ages 5 to 13.
This will be the latest of 19 fields that have been either built or repaired by Cardinals Care in conjunction with their Redbird Rookies program.
Might be worth checking out if you have some free time tomorrow morning.
